Challenges

The client faced challenges in consolidating engineering drawings that varied in the page layouts and formats (for example: A0, A1, A2, A3). This created inconsistencies and inefficiencies in data extraction, storage, collaboration, and exchange. Extracting data such as Bill of Materials (BOM) tables, dimension tables, and other engineering details from the drawings was time-consuming and error-prone. The manual extraction and validation processes significantly increased the TAT, affecting project timelines and delivery schedules.

Solution

Datamatics deployed TruCap+ and TruBot solutions for the customer to automate data extraction from engineering drawings. These tools were configured to extract specific data, including Bill-of-Material (BoM) tables, dimension tables, generic information and attributes, and detailed dimensional and BoM data. The solution used cognitive automation to validate the extracted data and reduce manual errors significantly. The solution was scalable to accommodate increasing volumes of engineering drawings and adapt to new requirements as the customer’s operations expanded.
